National Service Scheme is a central sector scheme of the Government of India, conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports. This scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s Centenary year, 1969 and aims at developing student’s personality by instilling a sense of social responsibility , and preparing them for the final goal – Engaging in community service and providing opportunities for the youth to take part in it. NSS is thus a concrete attempt in making campus relevant to the needs of the community
The NSS BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus chapter was sanctioned in March 2009. Since its inception, the NSS BPHC has been galvanising student enthusiasm and commitment to society and channelling it into concrete programs targeting rural citizens, economically disadvantaged school children, orphans and medical patients among others. It has now around 150 volunteers working for the social uplift of the down-trodden masses of our nation. We are an organisation through which students get an opportunity to understand the community they work in and their relationship with it.
